Día Event! Oregon Shadow Theatre presents "Anansi the Spider" Wednesday at 4 pm.

It's been awhile since we've posted here. We're in the process of redoing our website and will be merging this blog with our other library blog. In the meantime, we have an exciting program at the library this week!

This Wednesday! Join the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, as hundreds of libraries throughout the country host special multicultural events in celebration of El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day).

To celebrate Día (Diversity in Action), Oregon Shadow Theatre will be here presenting "Anansi the Spider" on Wednesday, April 30th at 4 pm in the Main Meeting Room of the Corvallis Library. This will be an amazing shadow puppet show! Anansi the Spider is a West-African trickster tale that is sure to entertain the whole family!

The West African trickster Anansi the Spider is brought to life by the Oregon Shadow Theatre. As shadow puppeteer Deb Chase manipulates and gives voice to the puppets from behind the shadow screen, Mick Doherty works in view of the audience providing music, voices, and sound effects, and acting as a storyteller. Marimba, Ghanaian hand drum, and thumb piano are among the many instruments and sound effects devices used. The colorful shadow puppets are based on African designs.
