Parenting Webcast (Talaris Institute)

An opportunity that some parents, parent educators, and caregivers in our community may be interested in:

Seattle's Talaris Institute was founded in 2000 and has a mission of supporting parents and caregivers in raising emotionally and socially healthy children. On April 6th, a Talaris Webcast will feature Dr. John Gottman on "Raising an Emotionally Healthy Child: The Heart of Parenting." Dr. Gottman is a professor of psychology at the University of Washington and a "world-renowned researcher in the area of family systems and couples dynamics." More details below:

"Coming April 6:  Talaris Webcast Featuring Dr. John Gottman. Dr. Gottman will be speaking on "Raising an Emotionally Healthy Child: The Heart of Parenting" at 10:00 AM PDT.  Every parent knows the importance of equipping children with the intellectual skills they need to succeed in school and life.  But the research shows that children also need to master their emotions. In this talk, Dr. Gottman explains how to teach children to understand and regulate their emotional world.  Once they master this important life skill, emotionally intelligent children will enjoy increased self-confidence, greater physical health, better performance in school, and healthier social relationships. Click here to join the Webcast on April 6, and watch this space for details of "on demand" viewing if you can't be with us live!"(from Talaris website.)

Spring is Coming

Here are my favorite picture books so far this year for Spring:
Snow Rabbit, Spring Rabbit: a book of changing seasons by Il Sung Na
A little rabbit watches as a variety of animals are busy during the winter migrating and hibernating. This is a beautifully illustrated book!
Spring Is Here by Will Hillenbrand
Mole is so excited that Spring is finally here! Mole tries to wake up Bear, but doesn't have any luck, until he figures out a great plan. Hillenbrand fans won't be disappointed!

In this video from Harper Kids, you can meet award-winning author and illustrator Kevin Henkes, as he discusses his latest book.

As he hops along a little rabbit wonders what it would be like to be green as grass, tall as fir trees, hard as rocks, and flutter like butterflies.
